The group’s fourth hit at the end of the decade was “Didn’t You Know (You’d Have to Cry Sometime).” In 1973, Gladys Knight and the Pips split from Motown Records and signed with Buddah Records. The group’s first two singles, Letter Full of Tears and Operator, established them as R&B artists. The Pips recorded a version of Johnny Otis’ Every Beat of My Heart for the Huntom label, which was released by Gladys Knight. Where My Heart Belongs is a later album by Knight that made the Top Ten list for Gospel in 2014. Knight’s solo career began in the late 1970s and early 1990s.
